Healing and Change
We believe the therapeutic relationship between an individual and counselor is an essential component and important catalyst for change, and that clients must feel safe within that relationship before they can move toward a more holistic version of themselves.
We strive to help clients feel safe by developing genuine relationships, and journeying with them through the process of self-exploration.
Change is a highly individualized process, and it does not happen in the same way or in the same amount of time for all clients. It typically is not a single occurrence, nor an epiphany that suddenly gives direct insight into issues or a direct route toward healing. It tends to be a process of learning and growth that occurs at the pace an individual is comfortable with.
Humans were created to be relational beings and that all humans have a desire to know and to truly be known - as a whole person encompassing both light and darkness. It is in the context of relationship that we learn how to view the world, how to relate to others, and how to view ourselves. Relationships can both hurt us and heal us. Some relationships can be highly destructive and damaging to us, and negatively distort our understanding of who we are and were created to be; and other relationships can be incredibly healing and can challenge and encourage us to become the best version of ourselves.
It is in the context of safe relationships, such as the relationship between client and counselor, that we can let our defenses down enough to reveal our most desperate thoughts and explore our shadows. These relationships can also act as a mirror for us, reflecting our irrational and harmful thought and behavioral patterns, and help us to see the kind of people we want to become

There is no easy walk to freedom anywhere,
and many of us will have to pass through the valley of the shadow of death
again and again before we reach the mountaintop of our desires. -Nelson Mandela
